Soul Quest Ayahuasca Retreat in Orlando June 21-23 -2019

After returning from the 3rd World Ayahuasca Conference in Girona Spain and having a pit stop in Ibiza for some much-needed R&R I was able to process everything that I learned and witnessed at the convention. One of the main high lights and takeaways was" Forming Alliances" Soul Quest will be traveling to Brazil, Ecuador, and Peru to form Alliances with the leaders of the indigenous tribes that we met at the Conference. Soul Quest's Mission has been to create a space where all indigenous leaders from around the world would have a place in the states to be able to teach their culture and to pass their knowledge to future generations. We are also looking to form alliances with other Ayahuasca circles in the states as well. We would be able to help in the process in the legalization of Ayahuasca as a spiritual sacrament as we have already filled for the DEA Exemption. As some of you may know, nearly three years ago we began our DEA exemption process. We had explored the prospect for litigation and instead first pursuing the exemption application. Ultimately, we decided to go the exemption route, as securing such would avoid the issues surrounding litigation. Thereafter, we contributed significant time and effort to formulating the exemption application. Yet, since August 2017, we have received no response back from DoJ/DEA regarding this application. Over the past six (6) weeks, our attorney has ramped up inquiries, leaving several messages within the applicable DoJ division and simply seeking an answer to the question of “when the application for exemption will be completed?” Yet, despite several phone messages, there has been zero response. 
So, earlier this week, we started our discussions about the prospects for filing the action we originally contemplated about 3 years back. This time, the application for injunctive relief would be further fortified by the dysfunctional process surrounding an exemption application; the failure of DoJ to grant any such applications; the loose, non-specific standards surrounding the review of such; and the consequent loss of free exercise rights stemming from the failure of DoJ officials to adhere to the UDV case decision. I believe that this is a viable action – and one that should be filed in the federal district court in Orlando. I believe that the time is ideal to do so, especially as there is no decision on the exemption application. Indeed, even if – following the filing of any lawsuit – DoJ would then render a negative decision, I believe that the defects in the process would render any such poor decision as constitutionally defective. So, we will commence work on a petition for preliminary injunctive relief and a corresponding petition for permanent injunctive relief.
